The 1965 World Series was played between the Minnesota Twins, of the American League, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the National League. Game 1 was played on October 6, 1965, which happened to be Yom Kippur. Sandy Koufax, who is Jewish, stated that he would not pitch on that day, so Don Drysdale pitched Game 1 for the Dodgers.
